Hi everyone, it’s been more than two years since my last blog post. There have been a lot of changes in the world and also in my personal life. In the second half of this year, inspired by the people surrounding me, I decide to step out of my comfort zone and start to explore fashion designs with some hands-on projects.

Unbox Brother Sewing Machine

Last month, in October, I purchased my first sewing machine and unboxed it. The one I got is Brother Xm3700, which is a simple but well-known sewing machine with everything you need as a starter for fashion designs or households.

Ideas Behind the Product

The reason I would like to create a table runner as my first design project is quite simple. Since I would like to get familiar with this sewing machine, then I choose to design a festival theme table runner, while the holiday season was coming but also I thought it would be an easy one, to begin with.

Execution Phase

  1. Find fabrics and trims from two fabric stores

2. Measure and draw sketch design

3. Sew and put everything together (Sounds easy but most time-consuming part)

Concepts Behind the Product

Holiday Theme | The Gilded Age | Table Runner

  • Why it’s asymmetry & why the other side has a different look?

It’s deigned to be like this. The main reason is I would like to give this table runner something different meaning other than simply a piece of cloth. Like objects, life, and many other things in the world, they all have different facets and sides. Then, three layers on the other side and fabric with more dimensions could convey that purpose.

Breaking with Tradition.

Test & Learn

Also, there is room for improvement, such as being better at measuring, being a little bit more patient, and lastly picking the materials (fabric color combination and matching)
